Beauty in the Backyard

It may seem counter intuitive to take sabbatical time to explore our own neighborhood, but we couldn’t resist the siren call of Southern Utah. Eight days of roaming in places we’d always wanted to go: Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Moab, Arches National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante N.P., Capitol Reef N.P., Canyonlands N.P., Bryce N.P. and Zion N.P.

Every day seemed to present more beautiful scenes then the one before – with surprising leaf colors and a lack of crowds. We were reminded constantly that our national parks are remarkable, and that sometimes what’s close to home is as fabulous as distant lands.

And trust us: even though it’s a haul, dinner at Hell’s Backbone Grill in Boulder, UT, IS worth the drive and the notoriety. Who’s up for joining us at Thanksgiving next year?
